The Fujifilm X-T3 and Fujinon XF 200mm f/2 OIS WR will be a very attractive option for many photographers going forward so they make sense to review together. It seems that many of the post-announcement, pre-shipment videos include the specialized Fujinon XF 200mm f/2 OIS WR in their reviews, which kind of makes sense since the biggest improvement the X-T3 has over the X-T2 is speed.
I never had an issue with the speed of my Fujifilm X-T2 and even felt it held it’s own against the Sony a9 and a7RIII, but it was definitely not quite there yet speed wise. Now it looks like the X-T3 will fall somewhere between the two with very usable electronic shutter. This is probably thanks to Samsung as many have ventured to guess, but no one knows for sure yet.
Samsungs old BSI sensor still performs very well against even Sony’s best chips, but the X-T3 doesn’t seem to outperform the X-T2 much from all the comparisons out there. It just seems to leave a little more noise so that details are preserved, which is fine by me, but will disappoint others. If the camera outperformed the X-T2 by a stop or two at lowlight performance I would lean very heavily towards Samsung, but Fujifilm could still be using a Sony chip or maybe a Panasonic chip?
