Fujifilm GFX 50S: 60 Minute Exposure, GFX FPS, GFX Samples and More

Two nights ago I attempted shooting two 60 minute exposures to test the Fujifilm GFX 50S’ noise performance, but wasn’t successful. I began by shooting without long exposure noise reduction on, to save time. Then when started my long exposure noise reduction photo but was interrupted twice, which wasted about 30 minutes of time, since I had to start over. Once I completed my second photo the camera had one bar of battery left so I raced back to my house to plug the camera in, but it died before I got there so the noise reduction did not finish. The image looks ok, but since it’s not correctly processed it’s not worth sharing.

The take away from this experience is that I estimate the Fujifilm GFX 50S is capable of shooting about 3hrs strait with the rear screen LCD on. I hope to attempt the test again soon using the EVF, but if your are going to shoot super long exposures I highly recommend having the hand grip with a second battery or keeping close track of how long you are shooting for, because 3hrs seems to be the maxiumum length and wasting over an hour of time can be a disappointing experience.

GFX FPS Program
FujiAddict was the first blog to find the GFX FPS program sign up page and share it, but it appears we were a bit early. The other day I received a response from Fujifilm:

The Program won’t be available until May 1st, 2017. I had a few questions that I needed answered so I called the same manager I spoke with last time to address my problem and asked him for more details on the program. It appears the US and European programs are going to be very different since the customers are seen as being different. Europeans have a lot more X gear so Fujifilm didn’t view the equipment requirements in Europe as being burdensome, but in the US it is expected that GFX owners will likely be new customers so they wanted to open the program up for everyone. Further the US program will offer more cleanings, etc…

The cleanings in particular interested me because I have a lens that really needs to be serviced for the X system, but according to the manager I spoke with Fujifilm will not cover my X equipment under the FPS program at this time. I found this news very disappointing, but encouraged him to let Fujifilm know this would help many justify the additional cost. I hope Fujifilm rethinks the program before May 1st.
