Fujifilm’s GS645S and GS645 Compared

Lots of photographers are pulling out old Fujifilm medium format cameras with the announcement of the Fujifilm GFX. Fujifilm’s rangefinder medium format cameras are a great value right now if you come across them. I hope the GFX and cameras like it lead to a medium format renaissance in photography. Many photographers are overly attached to the full frame format.

Digital MF (33X44 sensor) in the GS645/GS645S form factor will be really interesting for my kind of environmental portrait photography.

I have a GS645. The camera is wonderful, but it’s Achilles Heel is the bellows. It springs leaks worse than an old boat. When I first got mine, I was doing only nighttime photography and never realize how many holes my bellows had until I took it out one day in broad daylight and got back my Fujichrome strips full of fogged frames. At first I didn’t realize what they were and was totally confused. I relegated it to a nighttime camera only. I thought about getting the bellows repaired, but have no idea where I could do that, and if it would be cost effective to do so.
